The RSC is proud to serve as Canada’s National Representative Body (NRB) for The Frontiers Planet Prize.
The ambition of the Frontiers Planet Prize is to “directly address the planetary crisis, by mobilizing scientists engaged in breakthrough research, with the greatest potential to stabilize the planet’s ecosystem.”
As the NRB, the RSC coordinates Canada’s participation by supporting universities and research institutions in registering as National Nominating Bodies (NNBs). NNBs nominate their top scientists for the prize, recognizing research that addresses critical sustainability challenges.
Each year, Canada’s National Champion is selected by the Frontiers Planet Prize jury from amongst the nominations submitted by the RSC. This national champion then enters the international stage to compete to be one of three International Champions alongside scientists from around the world. Each of the International Champions’ institutions will receive one million US dollars, to support their continuing research.
The next nomination cycle (for 2026) begins this fall. If your institution is interested in becoming an NNB, join us for an upcoming Q&A session featuring representatives from the Frontiers Planet Prize and the RSC.
